Every row is a bank charter changing hands or a filing over one — a credit union buying a bank is a bank being sold, and it is carried here under its own type rather than on a page of its own. A holding company filing is an application over a named bank whose structure the public record does not yet disclose — it is carried here because it can be a sale, and it is not asserted to be one.

Effective is a completed transaction date. Announced is the announcement date as validated against a primary source. Reported is the date CBSI first recorded the transaction, used where the announcement date has not yet been validated — it is on or after the true announcement date, not before it. An unlabeled date has no basis recorded.

Target size and return on assets are the target bank's own call report figures as of the last quarter it filed before the deal, read from the FFIEC. They are shown for 86 of 92 events. The rest are blank because the target is a holding company whose bank we have not matched, or because the record carries no identifier for the target — never because a bank did not report. Return on assets is for the twelve months then ended. They are left blank on the 2 branch transactions on purpose: in a branch deal the bank being measured is the seller, and its balance sheet is not the size of the transaction.
